The Post Basic Diploma in Emergency and Disaster Nursing is a 1-year specialized full-time clinical program designed for registered nurses who want to develop high-level competencies in emergency medicine, trauma care, and mass casualty disaster management.

Course Overview

Duration: 1 academic year (12 months), balancing theoretical learning, advanced simulation training, and fast-paced emergency room clinical rotations.
Objective: Train nurses to perform rapid triage, stabilize critically injured or acute patients, manage trauma resuscitations, and lead coordinated medical responses during large-scale natural or man-made disasters.
Governing Body: Approved and standardized by the Indian Nursing Council (INC) and executed via affiliated state medical universities and nursing colleges.

Eligibility Criteria

Educational Qualification: Completed General Nursing and Midwifery (GNM) or B.Sc. Nursing / Post Basic B.Sc. Nursing with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks from an INC-recognized institution.
Professional Registration: Must hold a valid, active registration as a Registered Nurse and Registered Midwife (RN/RM) with any State Nursing Council.
Work Experience: Minimum of 1 year of clinical experience as a staff nurse, preferably in an emergency ward, casualty department, or general ICU, completed after graduation.
Fitness: Certified as medically and physically fit to work under extreme stress, fast-paced crisis environments, and irregular shift patterns.

Core Subjects: Concepts of emergency nursing, trauma care and resuscitation, advanced cardiac life support (ACLS), pediatric advanced life support (PALS), toxicology and environmental emergencies, disaster preparedness, triage methodologies, and mass casualty incident (MCI) logistics.
Clinical Postings: Intensive hands-on residency inside Emergency Departments (ED), Trauma Intensive Care Units (TICU), Casualty blocks, ambulance/pre-hospital care services, and disaster mock-drill zones.
