Assumption: The URL is interpreted as B.Sc. Mathematics, covering both general B.Sc. Mathematics and the commonly offered B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics variant where institutions use the honours structure.

B.Sc. Mathematics is an undergraduate science degree that develops quantitative reasoning through calculus, algebra, geometry, statistics, differential equations and mathematical modelling. In India, it is awarded by individual universities under the higher-education framework of the University Grants Commission (UGC), with admission through CUET-UG at participating universities or university-specific merit/selection routes.

The course is designed for students seeking a mathematics-intensive academic foundation for postgraduate study, research, analytics, teaching after the required qualifications, finance, actuarial and other quantitative careers. Depending on the university, the curriculum can also include programming, computer science, statistics, data analysis and interdisciplinary electives.

Quick Overview

Parameter Details
Degree / Credential Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) in Mathematics
Duration 3 or 4 years, depending on university structure
Governing Body UGC framework; degree awarded by the respective university
Primary Entry Route CUET-UG or university-specific merit/selection

Duration & Structure

A B.Sc. Mathematics programme can follow either a 3-year or 4-year undergraduate structure, because the UGC framework permits both models with multiple entry and exit options. The University of Delhi currently follows its four-year undergraduate framework, while Banaras Hindu University’s 2026 undergraduate admissions include NEP-aligned programmes, illustrating institution-specific implementation. A 3-year programme normally comprises six semesters; a 4-year structure can add honours, research or advanced coursework according to the university curriculum.

Eligibility Criteria

The usual entry point is Class 12/10+2 from a recognised board with Mathematics as a required subject, although the prescribed combination can additionally include Physics, Chemistry or another approved subject. Students from PCM backgrounds therefore meet the subject requirement at many institutions, while candidates without Mathematics in Class 12 generally do not satisfy mathematics-degree programme requirements.

  • Academic Baseline: 10+2/Class 12 with Mathematics; additional subjects depend on the institution.

  • Minimum Marks: There is no single national percentage cutoff. A 45%–50% aggregate threshold is common in university rules; for example, BHU’s 2026 B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics Group requires 50% aggregate plus Physics, Mathematics and one of Chemistry, Statistics, Geology, Computer Science, Information Technology or Geography, with a pass in the concerned subjects.

  • Age / Other Prerequisites: CUET-UG itself has no age limit, but the admitting university can prescribe an age condition. University of Delhi’s 2026 FAQ also confirms that candidates seeking B.Sc. (Hons.) Mathematics must appear in Mathematics in CUET-UG 2026.

Entrance Exam & Entry Routes

  • National-Level: CUET-UGiSathi CUET-UG Details. NTA conducts CUET-UG for Central and participating State, Deemed and Private universities.

  • State-Level: No single common state-level entrance examination exists for B.Sc. Mathematics nationwide; state universities can use their own merit or university-specific admission process, while some participate in CUET-UG.

  • Direct Entry: Merit-based admission is available at universities/colleges that do not require a separate entrance examination.

  • Lateral Entry: Not applicable as a standard route for B.Sc. Mathematics.

Path Options by Complexity

Tier Route Best Fit For
Tier 1 Central / CUET-UG Participating Universities Students targeting nationally competitive public universities
Tier 2 State / Public Universities via Merit or University Process Students seeking state-university and affiliated-college options
Tier 3 Private / Deemed Universities via Direct Merit or University Test Students seeking institution-specific admission flexibility
