Overview
B.E. Electrical and Electronics Engineering (Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics Engineering) is a 4-year undergraduate programme in engineering (electrical and electronics engineering). It covers electrical machines, power systems, analog and digital electronics, control systems and embedded systems.
Course Details
- Level: Undergraduate (UG)
- Duration: 4 years
B.E. Electrical and Electronics Engineering is listed as a 4-year programme. Confirm the structure with the institute.
Eligibility
10+2 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics from a recognised board (some institutes accept Biology or a vocational subject in place of Chemistry), with the minimum marks set by the institute and a valid entrance score.
Admission
Admission is through JEE Main (NITs, IIITs and other centrally funded institutes via JoSAA), JEE Advanced (IITs), BITSAT, VITEEE, SRMJEEE and other university tests, and state CETs such as MHT CET, KCET, KEAM, WBJEE, TS EAMCET and AP EAPCET. Diploma holders can often enter the second year through lateral entry, with rules varying by state. Check each institute's notice.
Registration & Recognition
Engineers do not need a licence for most roles in India. Chartered Engineer status (Institution of Engineers, India) is optional, and government and PSU engineering posts follow their own recruitment rules (for example the Engineering Services Examination, and PSU recruitment through GATE). Check that the institute and programme have AICTE approval, and look at NBA accreditation of the branch.
What You Will Learn
The programme covers electrical machines, power systems, analog and digital electronics, control systems and embedded systems.
Where You Can Work
Typical settings include manufacturing, construction, power, IT and technology companies, public-sector undertakings and government departments, consulting and design firms, research and development labs, start-ups, and your own business.
Career Options
Graduates can work as electrical or electronics engineer, power-sector and PSU engineer, automation or embedded engineer. Roles, pay and requirements vary by employer, city and experience.
After This Course
You can move on to an M.Tech or M.E. (usually through GATE), an MBA or PGDM, civil services and engineering-services exams, PSU recruitment, higher study abroad, or direct employment and entrepreneurship.
Good to Know
B.E. is the title used by many university-affiliated colleges; it is a separate degree title from the B.Tech, with a similar 4-year structure.
